Sankho Chaudhuri (b.1916) indulged in a wide range of subjects and experimented with numerous materials. His abstract sculptures show impeccable rhythm and movement, which reflect his nonconformity to a particular style. Chaudhuri experimented with materials such as wood, copper, cement, bronze, and brass, to name a few, and strived to evolve from the mainstream academic style which had become the standard during the British Raj. His sculptures showcase distinct lines which add to the abstract nature of his works. He explored themes of wildlife extensively, along with female forms.

Chaudhuri received his Bachelor of Arts from Santiniketan (1939) and a Diploma in Fine Art with Distinction in Sculpture from Kala Bhavan.
