Jatin Das (b.1941) a dynamic painter, sculptor, muralist, print-maker, and teacher, has been creating for the past 60+ years. His art practice is dynamic and powerful, with hurried yet well-placed strokes spanning through oils, acrylic, watercolour, conté, serigraphy, and ink. Das has used various surfaces to bring his visions to life, be it paper, platters, canvas, terracotta, and murals. His subjects are figurative and inspired by his culture. An observer, he has created several portraits of people and deities in almost all the mediums he has experimented with. His figures have an environment of motion and are profoundly sensual reflecting his dynamic process and interest in poetry.
Das is the recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan (2012). Das founded the JD Centre of Arts in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. His works have been featured in many public and private collections, and auctioned by international auctioneers. His large (7x68ft) mural ‘The Journey of India: Mohenjo-Daro to Mahatma Gandhi’ is placed at the old Parliament in New Delhi
