Prabhakar Kolte (b.1946) worked with single, dominant colours, which would have geometric or organic forms on top, painted with contrasting colours. He was heavily influenced by Paul Klee, which was visible in how he handled and subdued the bold colours with a bit of white. Kolte juxtaposes colours to create his forms and does not leave any figurative work on the canvas. Instead, he covers them with flat layers of paint and makes the figures unidentifiable. As his practice has evolved, he uses more crisp lines and incorporates finer edges for the fields of colours that he creates. Kolte has worked with canvases, paper, acrylics, oils, and watercolours, and his connection with nature serves to be connection with nature

Kolte received a diploma in painting from Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay (1968). He won a few prestigious awards, such as the Gold Medal of the Bombay Art Society (1970) and the Maharashtra State Awards (1971, 1972).
