Ambadas Khobragade (b.1922) started as a handloom textile designer and eventually shifted to New Delhi where he met J. Swaminathan, Rajesh Mehra, and Himmat Shah who later on became his cohorts and became one of the founder members of 'Group 1890' (1962). He was influenced by the movements in nature and mainly painted organic forms using an earthy palette.
Khobragade had a Diploma in Fine Arts from J.J. School of Art, Mumbai (1947-52). His works have been exhibited at Biennales in Brazil and France, national and international exhibitions including Contemporary Art in India and Iran at the Ben and Abbey Grey Frey Foundation, U.S.A (1967).
