Manu Parekh (b.1939) explores the relationship between man and nature. His paintings are lively and have a lot to tell. Parekh's colour palette is vibrant, with a focus on the outlines of the forms. Banaras is a recurring theme in his works and has played an integral role in his personal life. He has made several renditions of the city, employing the use of dark silhouettes and vivid colours. With his energetic works, Parekh can capture his subjects' energy and emotions.
Parekh has a diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai (1962). He was awarded the President of India's Silver Plaque and the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society Award (AIFACS), New Delhi (1972); the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (1982); and the Padma Shree from the Government of India (1992).
