K. Laxma Goud View Artworks of K. Laxma Goud Back to Artist

Laxma Goud is recognized for his graceful, yet powerful line drawings, etchings and watercolors. His works are microcosms of an idyllic, bucolic reality that is slowly being destroyed by urbanisation.

Born in Nizampur, Andhra Pradesh in 1940, he earned a diploma in drawing and painting from the Government College of Art and Architecture, Hyderabad, in 1963. Goud then went onto study mural painting and printmaking at M.S. University, Baroda. By the late 1960s, K. Laxma Goud  had developed a distinct style with finely chiselled, yet pliant lines and delicate washes of color that he used to depict man's interaction with nature.

K. Laxma Goud is a master draughtsman as well as a versatile printmaker and painter who has worked in a variety of mediums including etching, gouache, pastel and grass paintings. His simple images reflect an idyllic worldview, untainted by the harsh and dark realities of modern existence, as it were. The artist’s sensitive soul longs for that bucolic, humane world that he sees and paints with his mind’s eye. In his works, he recreates the rural landscape. The coliur, innocence, simplicity , the depiction of flora and flauna and the sheer beauty of his landscapes makes one want to get back to fairy tale times. The artist’s remarkable still and sophistication in handling his medium ( pencil and brush ) are evident.

K. Laxma Goud was honoured by the Padma Shri in 2016. Goud is the head of  Sarojini Naidu Schoool of Performing Art, Fine Art and Communication, University of Hyderabad. The artist lives and works in Hyderabad.
