Reena Saini Kallat View Artworks of Reena Saini Kallat Back to Artist

Reena Saini Kallat was born in New Delhi in 1973. She graduated from the Sir J.J. School of Art in 1996.Kallat belongs to the new generation of Indian artists who through their unique vocabulary, have given a new and distinct reinterpretation to abstract art.

Reena Saini, in her art, engages with diverse materials and in the process , her artistic subjectivity infuses these materials with unique conceptual associations and these conceptual associations then form the crux of the dynamic symbiotic relationship between the artwork and the viewer. Her practice encompasses genres as diverse as drawing, photography, sculpture, painting, video and installations. Her subjects are varied and include migration and cultural hybridity, bureaucracy and the place of the individual within the apparatus of the state, cultural amnesia and the loss of heritage, climate change and environmental sensitivity, as well as autobiographical references.

Reena also trained as a Bharatanatyam dancer for eight years, However, she soon discovered painting to be her major calling. Kallat held her fist professional solo show called ' Orchards of Homegrown Secrets' in Mumbai, 1998, and has since held many many exhibitions in India and abroad.

Kallat has also been the recipient of several notable honours, including the Gladstone Solomon Award for painting.
